National Tree Day with Yarrilinks

Landcare volunteers at the Yarrilinks Plant Out, Rupanyup West, July 26th 2026

This year’s Yarrilinks planting day was held on Sunday 26th July on the property of Rodney and Zaig Hately. The site is situated halfway between Rupanyup & Murtoa on 3LK road, 1.5km south of the Wimmera Highway.

The 10 ha site was prepared and will be managed by their neighbour, Ian reading.

22 willing helpers planted, placed guards on and watered approximately 1600 native plants which included buloaks (Allocasuarina Luehannii), as the area is a remnant site.

Approximately 1600 newly planted stems

The weather was perfect with very little to no wind, which made the lunch time BBQ very enjoyable.

The Yarrilinks committee would like to thank the Hately family for the opportunity to revegetate the site, the Reading family for site preparation and all those who contributed on the day.

Schools National Tree Day with Murtoa College

Yarrilinks Landcare teamed up once again with the grade 4,5 and 6 students from Murtoa College for a 400 stem planting on private property in Murtoa this Schools National Tree Day, July 24th. The 16 students were eager to enjoy the blue sky and fresh air and were quick to busy themselves into teams to start planting. As always, amongst the class, there were those students keen to dig and bury, with others preferring the comfort of assembling tree guards and co-ordinating the “Tree Uber” services of students to run and deliver to awaiting classmates. In less than 3 hours the job was satisfied, and it was time to return to the classroom, begrudgingly for some.
