A note from the Facilitator

This newsletter covers all the activities we’ve done over late summer 2024 through to Autumn 2025.

Hi, I’m Marney - I’m the new Yarrilinks Landcare Facilitator, delighted to be keeping Alicia’s seat warm over at the WCMA. I started in April, and you can read about my background and love of all things Landcare in a blog below. Whilst I’ve been finding my feet in the role (read: figuring out the tech-side of Landcare), I’ve been blown away by the incredible people and projects of Yarrilinks Landcare and Landcare across the Wimmera, and I’m greatly looking forward to working in this space with you.

Upcoming Yarrilinks Events

National Tree Day - Yarrilinks Plant-Out, 27th July

10am - 3pm, Heintze Rd, Minyip (there will be signs to the site on the day)

Yarrilinks invites everyone to our annual Plant Out this National Tree Day! This year we will be planting a bio-corridor on private property in Minyip.

Bring your gloves, your tools and your mates for a fantastic community event.

The Yarrilinks committee meets approximately quarterly. Our next meeting will be on the 10th of June, so if you would like an issue raised, please get in touch with Marney.

“State Budget acknowledges Landcare, but long-term support still needed”

With the State Budget released on the 20th of May, Landcare Victoria have released a “cautiously optimistic” statement advocating for the need for ongoing funding for Landcare across the State.

Blown away by Landcare in Rupanyup

A whirlwind tour of Rupanyup Landcare sites Jack’s Track and the Rup Reservoir has new facilitator Marney feeling inspired and in awe of what can be achieved by passionate individuals and groups.

A site visit to Minyip sees Yarrilinks Landcare committee members watering endangered Wimmera Rice Flowers with the help of Murtoa College work experience student Alex.

Emissions and Productivity: What farmers need to know with Cam Nicholson.
Free Workshop - Apsley

This workshop will provide an overview of the external forces driving the need to track farm emissions. It will assist farms to position their business for a low carbon emission future and highlight the relationship between emissions and productivity.

Woodcroft College are planning their annual visit to the region in October, so we’re looking for any landholders or Landcare groups that need help with their planting, weeding, environmental surveying …etc.
