Minyip Landcare Group AGM 2024

The Minyip Landcare Group gathered recently on a warm late summer evening for their annual general meeting. The group met at president Daryl Barber’s for a tour of his farm forestry plantations - featuring only locally native trees.

Although they grow more slowly than typical farm forestry species, Daryl grows native cypress pine (Callitris gracilis) and buloke (Allocasuarina luehmanni) because he is passionate about using locally native species wherever possible, and they both produce beautiful, strong timber.

We enjoyed a barbecue dinner at the Boolite Hall and then members shared a recap of their last bus trip, and all took turns filling the group in on what they had been up to on the farm. Alicia provided an update on Yarrilinks activities and discussed plans for the year ahead, including for the upcoming Victorian Landcare Grants. Options for a 2024 field trip were discussed (options included heading south to Camperdown Compost and other sites, or east to Phillip Island), and the group is keen to undertake weed control and explore rabbit control opportunities. The group is also excited for their 2024 plantout at Boolite.

Finally, Alicia conducted the committee elections, which saw Daryl Barber return as president, Peter Habel return as secretary/treasurer, and the new addition of Tim Inkster as vice president.

If you would like to join Minyip Landcare Group, please contact Peter or Daryl, or contact Alicia if you need to be put in touch with them.
