Introducing our new facilitator
Marney on site in Minyip
G’day! I’m Marney. Born and raised in Wycheproof VIC, I’m a proud Landcare volunteer since 2016, serving as the Vice-President of the Buloke and Northern Grampian’s Landcare Network (BNGLN) since 2022, and the Wycheproof and District Landcare group Chairperson since 2021.
With a background in Arts Literature and Social Science from La Trobe University, I fell into the Landcare space by way of the family farm where I spent 10 years as the managing director of a free-range chicken egg enterprise. In this venture, I learned about regenerative agriculture and land management for conservation, whilst pursuing horticultural study for a love of plants.
This interest further lead me to a role as an assistant facilitator with the BNGLN in 2023, where I was privileged to develop the inaugural nature festival ‘Galngga Dja Dja Wurrung Festival’. This project was awarded the Tidy Town’s ‘Social Wellbeing’ award at the Keep Australia Beautiful (Vic) 2024 Awards Gala.
In 2024, I worked as the project coordinator for the BNGLN and Landcare Victoria’s ‘New Futures’ pilot program to deliver the project Windharp Horizons – a twenty-year landscape strategy and action plan for the region.
In my volunteer capacity, myself as part of the Wycheproof and District Landcare group have undertaken the plant out of the Wycheproof Wetlands, a 5-year project with the Buloke Shire, seeking to vegetate the newly constructed wetlands precinct with more than 20,000 native-indigenous plants.
I was honoured to be nominated in the 2024 Landcare Vic awards, receiving Commendations in the NextGen Landcare category, and Honorable Commendations in the Women in Landcare category.
I’m passionate about community building and environmental conservation, and when not working or Landcare-ing, I enjoy bushwalking and being in the garden with my two pet cats.
I’m excited to be filling in for Alicia, noting her monumental achievements as the Yarilinks Landcare Facilitator and her big shoes to fill. I can be contacted at the same email address - landcare@yarrilinks.org.au!
